Kapwa Science

Senior scientific judgement and expertise for complex data, evidence, and decisions

We understand what the evidence says — and what it doesn't. We discern what matters for different audiences, contexts, and decisions — and know how to represent findings to demonstrate value, impact, and outcomes.

What We Do

Great science requires more than scientific expertise. It requires understanding people.Kapwa Science combines senior scientific expertise and judgement with a deep understanding of human behavior and behavior change — what influences what people think, value, decide, and do. We integrate that understanding into the work from the beginning. We work collaboratively with clients and their teams, recognizing that they bring essential subject-matter expertise and knowledge that can't always be found in the data. We ask the right questions, bring together different perspectives and sources of evidence, and discern what matters for the problem and decision at hand.We are especially comfortable where the map isn't yet clear. When data are limited, the right constructs haven't been defined, or an emerging problem doesn't yet have an established framework, we bring structure to ambiguity — identifying what is known and unknown, determining what evidence is needed and for whom, and building frameworks and evidence strategies that create a path forward. The result is work that is scientifically rigorous, grounded in the real world, and designed from the beginning for relevance, effectiveness, and impact.

Scientific & Evidence Advisory

Scientific and evidence due diligence, evidence assessment, opportunity and risk evaluation, scientific strategy, and senior scientific review for investments, acquisitions, partnerships, programs, products, and other consequential decisions

Fractional & Interim Scientific Leadership

Fractional and interim leadership across Medical Affairs, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), Market Access, evidence generation, and related scientific functions — including leadership transitions, capability gaps, new initiatives, periods of growth or change, and work that requires experienced scientific direction without delay

Data, Evidence, Analytics & Reporting

Data analysis, evidence analysis, outcomes assessment, key performance indicators (KPI) and measurement strategy, data interpretation, and reporting — including determining what the data and evidence support and how to represent findings to demonstrate value, impact, outcomes, and return on investment (ROI)

Engagements can range from focused analysis or advisory work to interim leadership and complex, multidisciplinary projects

About

Grace Macalino Schauf, PhD, MPH

Grace Macalino Schauf brings more than 30 years of experience across science, research, public health, academia, industry, government, and community settings. Her work has spanned scientific strategy, evidence generation, data and outcomes analysis, Medical Affairs, health economics and outcomes research, and the translation of evidence into decisions, programs, and action. That breadth gives her an unusual vantage point: the ability to move across disciplines and audiences, discern what matters, and connect scientific evidence to the context in which it will actually be used.Kapwa Science is led by Grace and brings in additional scientific, analytic, and subject-matter expertise when an engagement requires it.

Why Kapwa Science

Kapwa is a Filipino concept of shared self — the recognition that we are all connected.Kapwa Science was founded on this foundational principle: senior scientific expertise should be available to everyone — onot only to the institutions that traditionally have access to it. Rigorous, experienced scientific thinking can create meaningful change across companies, investors, government, non-profits, communities, and organizations.Kapwa Science exists to broaden access to great scientific expertise — and put it to work for good.
